At Friday’s Event Awards, Limelight Sports, the UK’s leading sports participation company, won Best Sustainable Initiative for its alternative commuting service Samsung Home Run. The award credited both its originality and relevance to people’s desire to stay healthy when faced with one the key challenges – time or lack of it – by using their journeys home in a clever and progressive way.
Competing against household names such as The NEC Birmingham, Limelight Sports went on to scoop the heralded Best Sustainable Initiative award for its Samsung Home Run.
Samsung Home Run is a free, sustainable, commuting initiative which operates over 25 guided runs home from work a week across the Tube network, and includes a complementary bag carrying service.
Commenting on the announcement, Martin Howard, Sponsorship Director at Samsung UK comments, “Winning the Best Sustainable Initiative category is a great achievement for all the team involved in the organisation and execution of Samsung Home Run. This year, we have seen an exceptional growth in runner conversion and anticipate that these figures will continue to grow over the next 12 months.”
Craig Dews, CEO of Limelight Sports said, “The team has worked tirelessly over the last year to bring this initiative to life and this award stands as a tribute to each and every person who has made Samsung Home Run what it is today. Our aim is to develop this initiative even further in 2013 and would like to thank Event Awards for its support.”
Limelight Sports has created many of the UK’s highest profile events and programmes, these include The Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon and Sky Ride. Limelight Sports also runs Swimathon, the annual national swimming challenge and also owns events such as Boutique Sport a women’s only fitness programme.
